Fifa refuse to approve Messi’s goalscoring record

The football world was thrilled when Messi scored his 86th goal of the year against Real Betis that saw him break Gerd Muller’s record. But was it a world record?
The Independent reports that Fifa have now refused to approve Lionel Messi’s goalscoring record due to the challenges from Brazil and Zambia.
First, the Zambian FA  claimed that Kabwe Warriors striker Godfrey Chitalu had scored 107 goals in 1972. They said that they had evidence to support this claim and were currently compiling evidence.
Next came Brazilian club Flamengo, claiming that Brazilian legend Zico had scored 89 goals in 1979 during his time at the club.
Messi scored two more goals against Cordoba for a 2-0 win for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, bringing his yearly total to 88, which is just one goal short of Zico. As Barcelona have two more games remaining this year, with his current form the Argentinian can surely pass Zico, but the 107 scored by Godfrey Chitalu will probably end up being too much for Messi.

Would like to be brand ambassador of Kerala: Patki

Kottayam: Mesmerized by the beauty of back waters in Kochi, Amruta Patki expressed her great excitement to be in Mollywood. The former Miss Earth Air was in Kochi for a two- day shoot of an upcoming Malayalam movie 'Paisa paisa'.

Amruta Patki, hailing from a middle class Maharashtrian family, bagged the beauty pageant 'Miss India Earth' award in 2006. She was adjudged Miss Earth Air 2006 amongst contestants from 82 countries. She has since  modelled  for a number of ads and attended several ramp shows. Besides, the ex-Miss India was one of the jury members for a dance reality show 'dholkichya taalavar' on ETV, Marathi.

Reminiscing on the simple ways of life in the past as a college-going student, Amruta revealed her dreams and ambitions of her career. Snippets from a brief chat with the talented beauty.

On your present assignment in Malayalam
I debut in Malayalam film industry with a promo song for the movie 'Paisa paisa' directed by Prasanth Murali. I had earlier worked with Raj Zacharia, the producer of the movie, for some ad films 4-5 years ago. We became friends since then. He invited me to shoot for the promotional song of his new film. The song sequence  required a model having an international appeal. The promo song will have a mix of English-Malayalam in its lyrics.

About debut in Bollywood
I did my first movie 'Hide N Seek' in Hindi in 2010. But unfortunately the film did not fare well at the box office and getting marked as an unlucky star is not a good sign in the path of stardom in Bollywood. So I lost interest in movies and later became cautious and took a break from acting. Then I turned to Southern film industry for better projects and started it all over again.

About acting and modelling
Both are difficult tasks. Modelling fetch you more money where as acting throws you to the limelight of fame. Modelling is my bread and butter, but for me now acting is not a just jam on it. I am focusing seriously on acting at present.

About Kerala
I am enthralled by the scenic beauty of Kerala. I hope to visit the place again and again. I will be happy to be the brand ambassador of Kerala Tourism if the state government is willing to put forward such an offer. In fact, I am looking forward to donning characters with dialogues in Malayalam films.

About the role as Miss Earth Air
I seriously want to do something to promote environmental conservation. I have travelled to many countries including Philippines, Mauritius and Singapore to promote environmental protection. I have associated with Philippines government for creating environmental consciousness among people. However, I could not do much in India as the government has not extended much support.

No proof of UFOs flying over India-China border: Antony

New Delhi: There is no conclusive proof of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) flying over the India-China border, but government is monitoring all developments in the neighbourhood which could have a bearing on national security, Defence Minister A K Antony today said.

He gave the information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha to a question as to whether Army's Leh-based 14 Corps had reported about mysterious UFOs flying over the India-China border during the last three years.

Assuring the House of the measures taken by government, Antony said, "Required measures have been initiated through development of infrastructure and operational capabilities to achieve desired levels of defence preparedness to safeguard the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of India."

To a separate question on situation in Jammu and Kashmir, he said it has stabilised due to persistent anti-terrorist operations carried out by the government.  "The situation in J&K has stabilised due to the persistent proactive counter terrorist operations carried out by the government," he said.

For return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants to the Valley, he said, "A comprehensive package of Rs 1618.14 crore was announced by Prime Minister in 2008... Government acts as facilitator for making all facilities available to migrants for their permanent rehabilitation in the Valley."

Antony also provided details of civilians and terrorists killed in J&K during last three years. While 13 civilians were killed between 2009 and October 2012, 58 terrorist were gunned down during the corresponding period last year. The highest number of 245 terrorists were killed in 2009.

Mumbai terror attacks: Ajmal Kasab hanged, Pakistan reacts cautiously

New Delhi: Even as news of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab's hanging sparked reactions across India, the reaction in Pakistan - the land of Kasab's birth - was muted. Indian government admitted it had had trouble getting a response from Pakistan.

Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid said, "We had trouble even giving the note to Pakistan and had to fax."

In the only official statement Pakistan's Foreign office, said it had received and acknowledged India's intimation of Kasab's impending execution on Tuesday, adding, Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestation and is willing to cooperate with all countries to eliminate the scourge.

Pakistan's stony silence on Kasab is nothing new. For the past four years Islamabad has rejected all Kasab's requests for consular visits and had refused to accept the bodies of the other nine Mumbai attackers and Kasab's family has mysteriously disappeared from their Faridkot village.

The larger impact of Kasab's execution may be felt on the 26/11 trial itself as pressure on Pakistan builds to complete 26/11 trial of six handlers and to track the masterminds. This also ends debate on access to Kasab by Pakistan investigators and Pakistan may toughen stand on India's please for clemency for terror convict Sarabjeet Singh.

For now India hopes the message that has gone out not just to Pakistan, but to the world that there is little tolerance for terrorism here while establishing that even the most ruthless terrorists are given due process of law.
